Thank You For Making December so MerryThe Holiday Open
House was a joyous celebration thanks to the planning committee:
Joyce Sanders, Shirley Bentley, Jan Smolinski and Diane McDaniel.
The committee did an outstanding job organizing the event. The
food was delicious, the setup was well thought out, and everyone
truly enjoyed themselves. A special thank you to Nancy Brennan,
Terri's sister Dorothy Woodward, Nelson Davey and Mike Runk for
helping with the setup, replenishing the food and drink, and
cleaning up. Thanks also to all the other residents who helped
with the cleanup.
-
Bravo for a festive holiday concert by the Heritage
Belles and Beau Hand Bell Choir: Jody Faron, Linda Foltz, Caroline

DeRonne who ensured that all of the children received gifts; to
Nelson Davey for taking the more than 45 packages to Lighthouse of
Oakland County; to Mike Runk for taking some of our extra
Christmas decorations to give as a donation.

The Women and Teens Pregnancy Center thanked Heritage in
the Hills knitters for the donated baby blankets. “They will help
us continue this ministry with the hundreds of clients we see each
year. The Lord bless you for thinking of us.”

We had 45 giving tree recipients this year. I'm sure
that there were very happy children on Christmas Day. What generous
Santas we have at Heritage in the Hills!
I encourage you to use the Heritage in the Hills website
http://www.heritageinthehills.com to view our monthly newsletter.
Beginning in February, we will no longer be mailing the newsletter to
snowbirds and other vacationing residents.
I would like to thank the HITH community for the very generous gift and
for all the extra gifts that I received this holiday season.
I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy 2012!
MEET NEW RESIDENTS: JAN AND BOB KITTLE
While
most people in Michigan dread the coming cold weather, one of our new
residents is looking forward to it. Bob Kittle is eagerly awaiting the
frosty temperatures that turn lakes into ice so he can don his scuba
gear and ice dive. While his wife, Jan, and their two college-aged
daughters also enjoy scuba diving, Bob is the only one who is a
certified ice diver.
The others prefer warmer waters. “Our family enjoys diving in the
Caribbean, in Grand Cayman,” Jan said. The Kittles also enjoy golfing
and skiing.
“Well, Bob and the girls enjoy skiing, and I enjoy sitting by the
fireplace with a good book,” Jan said with a smile.
But for now, the Kittles are busy with jobs and with settling into the
Hillsdale home they moved into in July 2011.
They had helped Jan's father, Frank Burn, move into Heritage Hills
previously, and liked the neighborhood. While visiting her father, the
Kittles took a walk and saw people moving furniture out of a house. They
inquired if the property was for sale, and within a couple of days, the
deal was sealed.
“We had a large home in a neighboring Auburn Hills subdivision and
wanted to downsize,” Bob said.
“We're very happy here. It feels like home,” said Jan, a registered
nurse who worked 22 years as a surgical nurse and now provides skilled
home care for Advanced Professional Home Health. She is looking forward
to doing some indoor decorating and painting “to get the house the way
we want it.”
Bob had worked 20 years in sales and marketing for an auto supplier
before retiring in 2006 to start his own business. He currently does
strategic coaching and advising for businesses and runs a financial
management web business for local governments and schools.
Bob has been a member of the Auburn Hills City Council for ten years.
“I'm a fiscal conservative; I watch our Ps and Qs,” he said of his work
on the Council. Bob is proud that the city recently has been able to
attract new retail and commercial businesses to the downtown area. He
looks forward to planning future road improvements to support the next
25 years of growth in the city. He said Heritage Hills residents and
Board members stay in close touch with City Council.
“The Council has lots of respect for people here,” Bob said.

Trivial Pursuit
6:30 pm, Friday, January 20
Put a little fun into a dark winter's night by coming to the Clubhouse to
play Trivial Pursuit with your neighbors. We kick off the evening with a
pizza and salad dinner, followed by dessert. Then it's time to gear up
those brain cells to recall trivia from the past and present. Players are
on teams, eight to a table, so if you don't know the answer, chances are
someone at your table will. Sylvia and Jim Bucknavich are your hosts for
the evening. Cost is $8;
sign up by January 17.

the work. Sign up by January 5.

A film based on author Kathryn Stockett's best-selling novel of the same
name, “The Help,” will be shown at the Clubhouse at 7 pm Saturday, Dec.
10. A $1 fee for snacks is payable that night.
A brief movie synopsis follows: A 1960s-era Mississippi debutante sends
her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing
interviews with the black servants behind some of her community's most
prominent families. Skeeter (Emma Stone) has just graduated from college
and decides to write about the black female servants who work in her
community. Skeeter becomes an object of scorn to the wealthy locals, who
view her actions as directly challenging to the established social
order. In this touching tale of race relations, Skeeter and the servants
discover that friendship can blossom under the most unlikely of
circumstances.
